We are swimming in beauty. It is all around us, from the snow-covered yards to the white or black sand beaches. Our planet is filled with colorful creatures and interesting insects, and we have been given stewardship of it. We get to watch over this beautiful landscape.
However, we don’t always do a great job of taking care of it. We sometimes neglect it like we neglect our bodies, our relationships and our spiritual health. When we are in a hurry, it can be easier for us to use single-use items. It's simpler for us to just buy something out of convenience than to research whether it was grown or manufactured in a responsible way. As a result, we sometimes aren’t treating the environment well with our spending.
When it comes to our personal health, we can neglect it for a short time without serious consequences, but if we continually ignore it, we create problems that can only be addressed through serious intervention. That is how our environment is right now – we have ignored it for so long that we need to make changes immediately.
We know God cares about us, as well as every animal and piece of the world, because God created all of it. God aches when creation is abused. If we want to honor God, we have to care about the things God cares about. This week let's pray about how we can be better stewards of our resources and meditate on how God is calling us to protect the gift of creation.
Dear God, You have given us such a beautiful gift. Help us appreciate it, love it and protect it in a way that honors you. Amen.
