Two Are Better Than One
October 9, 2019
Two are better than one, because they have a good return for their work; If one falls down, his friend can help him up. But pity the man who falls and has no one to help him up! (Ecclesiastes 4:9-10)
What a gift it is to be in relationship with someone. We are made for connection and community. Whether it is a spouse, a friend, a family member or a neighbor, it is a gift to share your life with someone and to put your trust in another person. It is wonderful to know that you can depend on others to come through for you and not do anything intentionally that will hurt your heart.
But relationships can be hard. People can be challenging and sometimes it is difficult to honor commitments that we made to each other. That is why God has called us to pray for each other. We can lift up our friends and partners in prayer. We can pray over difficult relationships. We can pray for a way forward and to find common ground with each other. We can pray for God to show us the good in others when we struggle to see it.
This week, let us pray for our relationships. Pray that God will help keep them healthy and strong and, if there are areas that need improvement, that the Holy Spirit will shine a light on that area so repairs can be made.
Dear Jesus, We are so grateful for the people you have placed in our life and we know they are there for a reason. Please help us love each other well. Help us build each other up and keep our relationships healthy. Amen.
